The Water Tank near the top of Laguna Honda is due to be replaced to protect the hospital’s water supply.

This will take much of the rest of this year (2024).

Construction has blocked off the tank area and the area where our SFUR Container sits.

The trail system is open outside of the construction site. The ‘road’ is closed. The Troop 88 trail is open with a few small re-routes

The container has been temporarily moved to a nearby location, behind the gardner’s area close to SE corner of the East Parking Lot.

Please respect the construction site. We will have full access again soon!

The Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center has let us know that the trails at Laguna Honda are again open to the public!

You can now visit, and see the work that SF Urban Riders have put in with support from the hospital, the SF Community Challenge Grant Program, and hundreds of volunteer hours. Stay tuned for updates on our volunteer program.

The Hospital itself remains closed to the general public, so please stay away from the buildings and other facilities used by residents and staff. This includes the farm area and lobby.

We would like to congratulate the facility for their hard work this past challenging year, and thank them for welcoming us to restore the trails and habitat.

Please enjoy the trail system, and as always recreate responsibly when doing so!

Even during the pandemic, we’ve been busy (safely!) cleaning up trash, maintaining existing trails and building new ones. Some of our bigger projects included building a brand new trail (the Lost trail) which starts and ends near the junction of the Victory and Sherwood Road trails, planting native plants in many different locations and rebuilding the top of the Steep Ravine trail. The Department of Public Health, who manages the Laguna Honda Hospital, has closed the Laguna Honda Community Trail System due to the coronavirus pandemic. They need to protect the staff and residents of the hospital. They have asked SFUR to help them spread the word of the closure.

Laguna Honda has been a great partner. We agree that these measures, unfortunately, are necessary for the health of the hospital’s staff and residents, and want to encourage the cycling community to respect the trail closures.

Our organization has recently been awarded Community Challenge Grant funding for Phase 3, which is ready to go once this health situation clears. Cyclists not abiding by this trail closure request will jeopardize further trail development and all future mountain bike access. The trails are closed to all users but cyclists have more to lose and our community knows that. Thank you for your understanding.

We strongly urge you to be responsible and respect the posted trail closures. The Laguna Honda facility provides services for people in the high-risk category. It is our obligation as stewards of the project and members of the community to do what is in the best interests of the hospital community.

We had a Please join us for the ribbon cutting ceremony of the new Laguna Honda Community Trail System September 28th.

The Laguna Honda Community Trail System is a 2.5 mile multi use recreational trail with convenient access across from Forest Hill Station and local neighborhoods. The trail passes though a diversity of vegetation from forest to grassland, has several great views. and connects to even bigger urban adventures like the new Crosstown Trail.
