Where it began
May 22nd, 2009 | By dcrites | Category: VideosThe formation of SF Urban Riders is more of a story than I’ve time to relate in this little post, but in short, it began as an alliance between members of SFDirtlab, trying to bring a bicycle skills park to San Francisco, and members of the Mt. Sutro Stewards, working to establish improved multi use trails across the city. Many other open space organizations are also coming forward with ideas of promoting the vision of a San Francisco greenbelt, a vision shared by planners way back in the 1950’s that somehow was pushed under the table for far too many years.
With all the talk of ‘green’ in the marketplace these days, it seems that at times, we forget the most important ‘green’ aspect of all. And that is to get outdoors, to touch the earth and soil with your hands and feet, resting under the green shade of a forest canopy, and resting one’s self and one’s soul in a natural oasis, here in our dense and urban city.
Check out this video of the Mt Sutro Steward’s work, something SFUR continues to be involved in until this day.
The next day to get out and do your part to enjoy Mt. Sutro and do your part to beautify will be 6/6/09, which happens to be national trails day. We’ll be posting more information about that workday as the date draws closer.
