Greetings Cycling Enthusiasts
Hopefully you have had the pleasure of visiting McLaren Park in some fashion. It is truly an amazing open space, with rolling hills, and grand views that overlook the Bay Lands, San Bruno Mountain, Twin Peaks, and Downtown. It is also irreverent, under used, and in transition.
Many great cycling opportunities involving McLaren Park are percolating heavy right now. It means cyclists are close to better Trails, a Bike Park, Youth Instruction, and all sorts of fun (for real). SF Urban Riders has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to initiate the momentum, but now there are simple ways everyone can get involved, and give the support SFUR needs to make these opportunities realities!
McLaren Park Trail Build: Saturday November 13th, 2010 from 9am-12:30pm
Location: Meet at parking lot corner of Mansell Street and Visitacion Avenue
SF Urban Riders knows lots of riders currently call the McLaren Park trails home turf and like them the way they are, and we respect that. However, SFUR is also about a long term vision, which requires working with land managers on what are imminent changes to the park. This long term vision will insure trail improvement projects are designed with cycling in mind, built with good flow, and most importantly are deemed multi use and legal.
This Saturday November 13th, SFUR will be working with SF Rec & Park on a short trail intersection project above the Golf Course. This is a fun and rewarding way to volunteer and show SFRPD that cyclist do in fact care deeply for McLaren Park and are willing and able to make a difference.
McLaren Bike Park Meeting: Tuesday November 16th, 2010 from 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Location: Crocker Amazon Club House (corner of Moscow Street at Italy Street)
This meeting is the first step toward planning and building the long rumored McLaren Bike Park. It is very important that LOCAL representation shows up to support. If you live around McLaren Park, or have kids that go to school in the area, consider yourselves very welcome.
The first Community Meeting will not go into details about specific designs or skills features because we have not reached that exciting stage yet. This meeting is about educating the community about the need for the McLaren Bike Park, demonstrate our sincere interest, and ask that the project move forward to an open community planning process.
If you have been sitting around throwing tail whips and back flips waiting for your chance to step up…..now is the time to step in and follow the process. It will not be long before SFUR is knee deep in dirt.
