Building Trails in McLaren
Aug 5th, 2009 | By dcrites | Category: Lead StoryTrails don’t happen by themselves. Yet trails are happening in our backyard, and SF Urban Riders is looking forward to supporting SF Rec and Park and Volunteers for outdoor California. We get to have a lot of fun with acronyms at SFUR as we support VOCAL and SFRPD in this trail building extravaganza. It’s coming up this weekend, August 8 and 9th, in McLaren Park, and SF Urban Riders need all our members to come out and lend a hand, maybe go for a ride if we don’t leave all our energy with our shovels.
The more us cyclists lend our labor and passion to these trail work projects, the more the park administration and management listen to the voice of us cyclists pining away for a bike park and beautiful multi use trails. A great many thanks to everyone who has helped us this last year be so successful at Mt. Sutro, working side by side with SFRPD to build singletrack built for not just hikers, or just bicycles, but built for everyone. Ahh, sharing… those good old messages from the kindergarten years never do get old, do they?
This weekend should be a wonderfully social event, VOCal being known for gathering huge volunteer forces for trailwork projects. And we’re not just asking you to volunteer – we’re bribing you to. Free meals, free satisfaction, and free camping accomodations within the park await those who sign up for this fine event. We’ll see you there, and should you feel more adroit with a kitchen knife than a trail tool – then come on down – VOCal is looking for kitchen volunteers as well.
Please take a moment to read the attached flyer(click on the image above), and please visit http://v-o-cal.org/projects/mclaren.html website to signup. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone there. Building trail, riding trail, and kicking back round the campfire afterwards. Man, you gotta love the weekend.
