This Sunday, 5.16.2010, we’ll be leading a group ride from the inner sunset where we’ll be able to fuel up on the most delicious pastries in SF.

Bring a few dollars for some delicious Arizmendi Bakery goods at 9am, and we’ll be riding via Sutro and Twin Peaks to McLaren Park, where SF Urban Riders will be hosting bike repair and children’s skills clinics down on the path by the soccer fields.  The skills clinics and bicycle repair will be from 11am – 3pm.

Associated Press – A routine wildlife survey taken at McLaren Park today discovered a rare and dangerous breed of butterfly.  Local scientists are baffled as to this creature’s avoiding detection in such an urban area for so long.  Local residents who often use the park have long told tale of the creature, who was rumored to be to blame for the disappearance of several small pugs and poodles over the last calendar year.

All of McLaren park has been cordoned off for the public’s own saftey, as mothra lepidopteran is known to be posinous and particularly aggressive towards trail users of all types.  The exact whereabouts of these animals is unknown, and helicopters have been scouring the area.  In order to warn residents, this multi-lingual video warning has just recently been issued by Phil Ginsburg of SFRPD



“I sincerely hope that the resources of our fair city are enough to cope with a natural menace of this level.  Perhaps the mission blues will unite in their desire to be the most known lepidoptera of the area.” Said Mr. Ginsburg in an official statement.

Naturally, due to the natural threat this group of animals represents, the McLaren Bike Park is on hold until further notice.  SF Urban Rides members could not be reached for comment, though Board Member Tom Borden’s voicemail referenced a search for pedal powered bugspray.  Perhaps there is hope after all.

Lets get together shall we? Enough of this working business.  Time to invest in your sanity, throw a leg over a mountain bike, get ready to explore, and come out and ride with us.

SF Urban Riders will continue to host select group rides with the intent of meeting anyone who’d like to have more fun on the trails.  The group rides will be varied between Beginning and Intermediate  in both skill level and physical fitness.  Most rides will have a ‘Bail Out’ option , but expect them to be  challenging – and last about 3-4 hours. We will have firm meeting locations, but a loose ride itinerary so the destination can be flexed to the needs of those that represent, and the weather on tap.  SFUR promises good off road adventure, good people, and good fun.

After all, when it’s all said and done, it’s all about riding your bicycle.  We hope to see you out there.

Pace will be intermediate to keep group on route.
It is San Francisco, so if you BIKE to the Start you can break free at any time.

This Extended LOOP Route will maximize dirt trail from the edge of the bay, all the way south to San Bruno Mountain and then back.
Total Ride: 45 Miles
Ratio: 50% Trail – 50% Mixed Paved Surface
Style: 29er, CX, MTB

Guaranteed to show everyone some new ways to connect to the urban trailscape.
Ride will use common trails and not violate any sensitive areas!

10am        April 3rd, 2011        MTB 101 Ride   Kezar Stadium – Waller & Stanyan Streets MAP HERE

This group event is for riders that need to practice time on the trails, and learn how to navigate the cities urban trailscape. Golden Gate Park, Twin Peaks, and Mount Sutro will be our backdrop.

The ride will consist of two segments.
The first is a 6-8 mile fun loop, with little elevation and only mild technical sections.
The second segment will be another 6-8 miles with more elevation and more technical trail.
Ride one or ride both…. guaranteed to be good times, good company, and confidence building.

6:30pm       March 31st, 2011    Advanced Night Ride    Kezar Stadium – Waller & Stanyan Streets MAP HERE

Meet at 6:30pm and grab a bite to eat from the Off The Grid Food Carts. The Night Ride will consist of rolling some dirt and urban features, and then weaving over to Twin Peaks, Mount Sutro and back to start. This is SFUR’s first ever night ride, and the weather is perfect!       MUST BRING OWN LIGHT.

7pm       February 8th, 2011    Advanced Night Ride    Kezar Stadium – Waller & Stanyan Streets MAP HERE

The Night Ride will consist of rolling some dirt and urban features, and then weaving over to Twin Peaks, Mount Sutro and back to start. This is SFUR’s first ever night ride, and the weather is perfect!       MUST BRING OWN LIGHT.

10am      February 6th, 2011   SF  High School Team  Polo Fields – Golden Gate Park MAP HERE

The SF Composite team ride will have two components. A leisurely warm up around the Polo Fields w/ Introductions, followed by a casual 10 mile loop rom GGP, over Twim Peaks, around Mount Sutro, and back to the polo Fields.

UPDATE!!! Due to a request from the Trail Center, we will not be leading a group ride to show up late.  They’re kinda like my old band director, who said “If you’re early, you’re on time.  If you’re on time you’re late, and if you’re late, you’re dead.”

PROJECT SCOPE:
Big Fun! The Trail group will focus attention on the EAST RIDGE TRAIL from the Summit all the way done to the Trailhead on Johnstone Ave… affectionately known as the IMBA Trail to local riders.
Trail Crews will address drainage issues, improve switchbacks and corners, trim back the vegetative corridor and the highlight of the day will be fixing the Junction at the IMBA Trail and the Mystery Trail.
The Habitat Crews will be directly above continuing work on the Rotary Meadow.

PARTY SCOPE:
The after work celebration will certainly have holiday spirit!
